A 'Feel Better' Poem For Melanie
(as delivered by her favorite cowboy)

For Melanie Maben, February 2020

“Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet,
And Melanie is, too!”

“Really, Johnny? That’s the best you can do?”

“What’s wrong with it, Scott? I worked on my poem for Melanie for nearly a week now. I heard she was feeling a bit poorly at the moment and I wanted to make her feel better.”

“Well, little brother…it’s kind of…um…lame.”

“Lame? And, you call yourself a ‘patron of the arts?’ You wouldn’t know good poetry if it came up and bit you on the backside! Melanie will love my poem!”

“She’d love anything you gave her, so that’s not saying much!”

“I also got her roses and fancy chocolates and a Get-Well card with kitty cats on it. I also got another special s’prise for her.”

“Johnny, if you still plan to show up on Melanie’s doorstep wearing only a big red bow, better see if Teresa has some smelling salts to bring with you!”

Get well, Melanie!
